Lancaster Twp. hires new interim manager

LANCASTER TWP — The township on Monday hired its third town manager since September.

In a unanimous vote, supervisors approved the hiring of John Trant Jr. as interim township manager, secretary, treasurer and zoning officer, while his company, Strategic Solutions, works with Lancaster to find ways to optimize its workflow.

Trant is the third person to hold that role in the past seven months following longtime manager Benjamin Kramer's resignation in September and former manager Danielle Rich's departure in March.

Supervisors sought Trant's and Strategic Solutions' aid following the dual departure of Rich and former secretary-treasurer Chrissy Senft, who left within days of each other in March for personal reasons and for a new job, respectively. With neither Rich nor Senft, the township was left with no one to pay the bills, said Supervisor Chairman Joe Plesniak at a special meeting April 7.

With Trant in the interim role, that is no longer a pressing issue.

Trant and his company will aim to determine why employees have left and to find a permanent candidate for both manager and secretary-treasurer roles.

“There are lots of good things happening in the township, and I'm looking forward to seeing those things move forward and, ultimately, find somebody to fill in the position longer-term,” Trant said. “I'll be here for a bit, and look forward to working with the public as well.”
