Why are restaurant workers overlooked for vaccine?

This space has been used to plead the case for persons and professions being unfairly damaged by the Wolf administration and his health advisors before, and it is time to do it again.

With his normal half-blind approach to planning, Gov. Tom Wolf is not taking the necessary steps ahead of finally opening up the restaurant and tourism businesses.

No one outside of health professionals have closer contact with the public than restaurant workers. Yet even though they are listed as essential workers, you won’t find the classification for them to receive COVID-19 vaccinations until the final group.

So, it is OK to go to a restaurant, remove your mask and enjoy yourself whether you are vaccinated or not, but the wait staff that has to serve you will not be protected beyond wearing their mask (which we should add they all do faithfully).

Do you think Gov. Wolf and his crew ask for only waiters who have underlying conditions that permitted them to move to one of Wolf’s more respected groups so they could be vaccinated to serve them food and drinks?

We realize that considering others and thinking ahead is probably asking for too much at once. But couldn’t someone in government think for a change?

It’s similar to opening the border and then saying, “Oh shucks, we probably should have vaccinated or at least tested those people before we let them in.” Maybe that plan was buried somewhere in the Biden/Pelosi bible, which no one has seen yet.

There are vaccinations going unused every day, but dedicated workers who serve all of us daily can’t receive it because one man doesn’t find them worthy?

It is time for Harrisburg to wake up and smell the coffee before a smart and unvaccinated waitress dumps it in his lap. Please wear your mask.
