First and foremost: Enforce existing gun laws; jail criminals

So another politician (President Joe Biden) has called for tougher gun control in the wake of the latest mass shooting.

What a surprise. Here is another surprise: No one is calling for stricter enforcement of the existing laws.

A favorite pundit of mine would say “all that meat and no potatoes.” In other words, all of this is pretty talk, but they do nothing to back their talk.

We wouldn’t need new gun control measures if the people in charge would do three basic things:

First, fund law enforcement sufficiently. The crazy talk about defunding the police should start in the backyard of people strange enough to think that could help.

Second, enforce the gun control laws already cast upon the owners. Some of them are questionable, but they already are in place, so go ahead and keep them.

Third, send criminals to jail and keep them there. Law enforcement and judges only “go easy” on criminals because there are limits to how long they can be sentenced for and how much they have to be coddled while incarcerated.

Before you jump to any rash decisions, keep this in mind: The author of this column does not now and has never owned a gun or had one in his home. I have, however, had politicians in our offices, and they are as dangerous with our safety as any other criminal mind.

The despicable act on Monday that killed 10, including a police officer (father of seven children) was a horrible criminal act.

It doesn’t matter if the perpetrator was seeing dinosaurs and flying hippos. It shouldn’t matter if he was on drugs or drinking Aqua Pazzo (crazy water).

The reason these mass shootings keep taking place is because the people committing them have no respect for other people and no fear of punishment.

This guy will probably get released so he can go cash his stimulus check along with all his buddies on the cellblock.

It isn’t about gun control at all, but talking tough about needing gun control is a great way to deflect attention away from things such as failure at the border or giving stimulus checks to convicted felons.

Tax us to death if you want to, but trampling on the Constitution in the name of gun control only adds fuel to the fire already burning in our country.

Try issuing executive orders to put and keep criminals in jail. That might bring change in the world. And please wear your mask.
