Wolf says Pa. among top vaccination states

39 new cases, 1 death in county

With more than 80,000 COVID-19 vaccinations administered every day, Pennsylvania ranks among the top states in vaccinations, Gov. Tom Wolf said Thursday.

An analysis of information from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on the number of vaccines administered per 100,000 residents this week shows Pennsylvania ranks second in the nation behind New Mexico.

“The pace of vaccinations in Pennsylvania is accelerating each day,” Wolf said.

“We have made tremendous progress, and today rank at or above the U.S. average for both first doses and those fully vaccinated. But we know we have more work to do. We appreciate all the providers and locations working to vaccinate Pennsylvanians. The commonwealth is committed to ensure that we can vaccinate all those in Phase 1A as soon as possible,” he said.

The state Department of Health said vaccination numbers from states fluctuate daily, but the figures show the state is making significant progress toward vaccinating everyone who wants to be vaccinated.

Statewide, more than 3.9 million doses of vaccine have been administered, exceeding the number of vaccinations given in 44 other states, and more than 82,000 people are getting vaccinated every day, according to the department.

More than 1.3 million of the state's 12.8 million residents are fully vaccinated.

A total of 4,699,560 doses will have been sent out through March 20, including 278,670 first and single doses and 242,270 second doses allocated this week.

As of Thursday, a total of 3,931,546 doses have been administered, including 2,559,813 first and single doses and 1,281,068 second doses.

In the county, 23,627 people have received one dose and are partially covered, and 28,291 of 187,853 residents are fully covered.

The state health department also reported 39 new cases in the county, raising the total to 9,298, and one new death, raising the total to 378, since the pandemic began.

Statewide, 3,126 new cases increased the total to 976,847, and 17 new deaths raised the total to 24,706 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of people hospitalized across the state is 1,500, including 284 patients in intensive care. The 14-day average number of hospitalized patients per day is about 4,500 lower than it was at the peak in December and is below what it was at the height of the spring peak in May.

In nursing and personal care homes, 68,716 residents and 13,951 employees have had the virus. Of the 24,706 total deaths in the state, 12,821 have been nursing and personal care home residents.
