Marguerite Supler

Marguerite Rawlings Supler, 89, of Gloucester, Va. died peacefully on Jan. 6, 2021.

She was born May 4, 1931, in Greensburg, Pa., to John Leonard Rawlings and Marguerite Spessard Rawlings.

She earned her undergraduate degree at University of Pittsburgh in 1953, and then went back to Pitt at 40 years old after her youngest child was in school to obtain a Masters of Social Work in 1975.

She worked as a psychiatric therapist for the Mental Health Clinic Human Services Center in New Castle, and then as a home and school visitor/school social worker in Butler Area schools, until retirement in 1993.

She married Dr. Will Supler in 1955. They moved to Butler, in 1959, when Dr. Supler opened his practice of dentistry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, John L. Rawlings and H. Edward Rawlings; and her sister, Arline R. Farnon.

She is survived by her children, Jonathon Will Supler (Susan) of Raleigh, N.C., Blaise Supler (Carl Jess) of El Paso, Texas, Timothy L. Supler (Beverly) of Newport News, Va., and Marguerite (Maggie) S. Mullen (Tim) of Saxonburg; his grandchildren, Heather (Bryan) McCullough of Houston, Texas, Katie Supler Del Rosario of Arlington, Va., Daniel Mullen of Glenshaw, Andrew Mullen of Saxonburg, Trevor and Eva Jess of El Paso, Texas, and Keith Kenyon of Cabot; and five great-grandchildren.

When she lived in Butler, she was on the board of directors of Visiting Nurses and Visiting Home Care Services, and a member of the Advisory Group for Child Abuse with Butler Children and Youth Services. She was a board member of Butler Area Public Library, Catholic Social Services and Butler Performing Arts Society. She was active in the American Society of University Women, the League of Women Voters, the Junior Women’s Club and the Butler Garden Club.

After moving to Gloucester, Va., she was a member and past-president of the North River Circle of King’s Daughters and Sons, a member of Master Gardeners since 1990, and a member of the Fine Arts Association of the Middle Peninsula.

She had lived at Sanders Independent Living since 2010, and faithfully led an exercise group three days a week, until shortly before the pandemic.

SUPLER — A celebration of life for Marguerite Rawlings Supler, who died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, is to be determined after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cremation Society of Virginia.
