SV boys upset NA in pool

Raiders hand Tigers first dual defeat since '07

The Seneca Valley boys swimming and diving team got its share of first-place finishes Tuesday night against North Allegheny.

But it was the precious second-place finishes that helped the Raiders do something that hadn't been done since 2007.

Seneca Valley took both first and second in the 400 freestyle relay — the last event of the night — to secure a 94-92 win over the Tigers.

It was North Allegheny's first dual meet loss since 2007 to Mt. Lebanon.

“They are consistently great year after year,” said Seneca Valley swimming and diving coach Brian Blackwell. “Tremendous coaching staff and traditions. Their kids are always tough and tonight was no different. This win will be something our boys will remember forever.”

Senior Connor Anderson anchored the B relay that finished second by just .21 seconds in the 400 freestyle relay to give Seneca Valley the edge.

Anderson also swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay, which placed first.

Kevin Donaldson, Haihan Xu and Daniel Simoes also had a hand in multiple first-place finishes for the Raiders, who can wrap up the section title with wins over Hampton and Butler over the next week and a half.

On the girls side, Abby Perry won the 200 freestyle and was also on the winning 400 freestyle relay for Seneca Valley in a 102-79 loss.
