SRU gets grant to combat campus sexual assaults

Slippery Rock University is among 42 colleges and universities in the state to receive grants to combat sexual assaults on campus.

Gov. Tom Wolf recently announced the schools will receive grants of up to $30,000 from the “It’s On Us PA” program he established five years ago as the first such statewide program in the country.

The grants provide funding from January 2021 through May 2022 to implement strategies on campuses to address goals of the program. The goals are: improving awareness, prevention, reporting and response systems regarding sexual violence; creating a more consistent reporting process to remove barriers that prevent survivors of sexual violence from reporting and accessing vital resources; and to demonstrate significant, proactive and sustainable leadership to change campus culture by challenging college and university presidents, as well as students, teachers, faculty, staff, families and communities, to pledge to improve their institutions’ climate around sexual assault.
