Moore 100th birthday

Genevieve Mae Moore

Genevieve Mae Moore of Butler celebrated her 100th birthday with a family drive-by and signs.

The former Genevieve Spohn was born Jan. 23, 1921, in Butler. She married John L. Moore, June 4, 1940, in St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. He is deceased.

She has eight children, Richard Moore, Butler; Marge Fogel, Chattanooga, Tenn.; Dori Shook, Butler; Alfred Moore, Georgia; Karen Fitzpatrick, Butler; Elaine Salkeld, Butler; and the late John Moore and the late Mary Moore.

She has 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Called “Ma,” “Gen” “Grandma,” and “Great-Grandma,” she has been a dedicated homemaker, baby sitter and gardener.

Living near Herman most of her life, and being a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, she participated in several church functions, but her fondest memories are volunteering at the annual Lenten fish fries.

A wonderful Italian/American cook, her entire family enjoys her recipes to this day.

Perhaps her greatest talent and refuge is her garden. Vegetables and flowers are her pride.
