S. Butler school hits virus limit, closes
The South Butler Intermediate Elementary School, which educates students in grades four and five, will be closed until Friday because of COVID-19 cases.
Superintendent David Foley said the report Monday of a student who tested positive for the virus brought the case count to a total of three, which, according to state requirements, necessitates a three-day shutdown.
Foley sent an email to parents Monday stating that the school will be closed and students will learn remotely at home on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The school will reopen Friday, Foley said.
Classes in the district's other three buildings will not be affected, Foley said.
Students attending Knoch Cyber Academy also will not be affected.
Foley sent a letter to parents Friday warning them that the intermediate elementary and middle school were nearing their case maximums, but the middle school had not yet been closed as of Monday.
Knoch High School closed for three days last week because of the building's COVID-19 count, and classes resumed Monday.
