Police charge man, 73, with touching girl

A 73-year-old Prospect man is accused of inappropriately touching and fondling a young girl at some point between 2010 and 2015 in Prospect.

David B. Stellfox turned himself in to authorities Monday and was arraigned by Senior District Judge Pete Shaffer in Slippery Rock. He was accompanied by his attorney, Michael Zunder.

Stellfox is charged with corruption of minors and unlawful contact with a minor, both felonies, and indecent assault, a misdemeanor. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.

The charges were filed after police were notified June 8 of a report of allegations of suspected child abuse and neglect, authorities said.

The girl, who is a teenager, later underwent a forensic interview, recounting what happened, police said. In recalling the alleged sexual abuse, the victim was not certain of the dates and times, but she remembered where they happened.

Police said they believe the girl was younger than 9 years old when she was abused on more than one occasion. According to court records, investigators suspect the incidents occurred sometime between January 2010 and December 2015.

Police said when they interviewed Stellfox outside his home June 15, he denied the allegations. He subsequently invoked his rights and the interview ended.

A preliminary hearing for Stellfox is scheduled Feb. 17. Zunder did not return a phone call Monday.

Court records showed that Stellfox pleaded guilty in February 2020 to misdemeanor charges of corruption of a minor and indecent exposure. Those charges involved a different victim. He was sentenced in the case to two years of probation.
