Police arrest man sought on charges after chase

Suspect gave himself up at Fairview Twp. home

A man wanted on several warrants — including one for leading state police on a chase — is behind bars after troopers arrested him Saturday afternoon at his trailer home in Fairview Township.

But it took a while for 34-year-old Brian Lee Scott Jr. to finally surrender.

A bail bondsman showed up around 4 p.m. at Scott's home on Hemlock Road to serve multiple warrants against him, authorities said. The bondsman reportedly saw him inside, but he refused to come out.Troopers were notified, police Cpl. Jacob Jesse said Monday.“So, we sent guys up there and surrounded the trailer and hailed him,” Jesse said. Scott, however, would not answer.State police also had their own arrest warrants for Scott. One of those warrants was for felony and other charges stemming from a police pursuit Jan. 12.He is accused of leading police on a chase in his sport utility vehicle over several roads in Fairview Township. His SUV reached speeds between 70 and 80 mph and he allegedly traveled on both sides of the road and ran stop signs during the pursuit.Police said he eventually turned onto an “old racetrack access road” and drove between 75 and 100 yards before stopping. Scott got out of the vehicle and fled into a heavily wooded area.Troopers searched for at least an hour, but they could not find him.The other arrest warrant troopers had for Scott was for drugged driving and other charges in connection with a July 17 traffic stop in Chicora. At the trailer Saturday, police spent about 90 minutes trying to get the defendant out. They even tried to call him on his phone, but got no reply. While inside, however, he apparently used his cell phone.“Mr. Scott made contact with the bail bondsman that was there and tried to make it appear as if he wasn't home,” Jesse said. “He was texting the bail bondsman saying he was away at camp.”Police weren't buying that and waited him out. Scott finally came out and gave himself up without incident. It turned out that the defendant was not alone. His girlfriend was in the trailer, police said, but she is not facing charges.District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Sunday arraigned Scott on charges in the two arrest warrants, including fleeing or attempting to elude police, a felony, and flight to avoid apprehension or prosecution, a misdemeanor, for the alleged pursuit. He also was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia in the other case.Scott is being held in the Butler County Prison on $60,000 bond. Authorities said he is also being held on three bench warrants — two in Butler County and one in Armstrong County.
