Benson's 18 key Rockets' win in opener
Kelly Benson scored 18 points and Anna Kadlubek added 14 Friday night as the Slippery Rock High girls basketball team built a 25-2 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 62-27 girls basketball win over Meadville in its season-opener.
Maryann Ackerman added eight as the Rockets led 42-9 at the half.

North Catholic 83, Freeport 57 — The Trojans (4-1) cruised to their fourth straight win in spoiling the Yellowjackets' season opener.
Freeport hosts Knoch on Tuesday while North Catholic plays Baldwin at home Saturday.

Freeport scored a pair of 7-0 victories over St. Joseph. Mark Livingston rolled a 749 series for the Yellowjackets, with games of 257, 257 and 235. Blake Olson had a 205 game and 576 series while Issac Spencer and Ashton Guay contributed 525 and 504 series, respectively.
Freeport's girls were led by Julia Cummings' 656 series. She had games of 226, 217 and 213. Mackensie Livingston had a 532 series.
