Pair Flee from police

State police are searching for a man and woman after a chase Tuesday evening in Fairview Township that ended with the suspects running off into the woods.

The suspects were already wanted on unrelated arrest and bench warrants when a patrol trooper happened upon them in a red 1997 Chevrolet Trailblazer around 6 p.m. in the area of Buena Vista Road, Cpl. Mike Lewis said Wednesday.

The warrants were for misdemeanor charges, police said. They declined to release the names of the suspects, who live together in the Petrolia area.

The trooper started pursuing the pair, who traveled onto Cherry Road and then Fir Road. The suspects eventually turned onto a “rugged” logging road off of Fir Road, Lewis said.

Both suspects a short time later jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a heavily wooded area, he said.

Police searched the area but they could not find either suspect. The search lasted between 60 and 90 minutes and was aided by the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, which supplied its thermal-imaging camera.

The Butler Police Department canine also was called in to assist.

The vehicle pursuit, Lewis noted, lasted about five minutes or so and covered around six or seven miles. Speeds never exceeded 60 mph.

Police later towed and impounded the suspects' vehicle, which is likely to be searched once a warrant is obtained for it.

While the suspects got away, Lewis said their arrests are “forthcoming upon further investigation.”
