Bernstine calls for reinstating plaque practice
State Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-10th, is asking House Speaker Bryan Cutler to reinstate a practice of hanging criminal conviction plaques under the official portraits of former Speakers of the Pennsylvania House in the state Capitol.
Bernstine said the practice dates to 2014 when plaques were put under the portraits of former speakers who were convicted of a crime. The plaques noted what crimes they were convicted of.
“Criminal convictions that occurred while these politicians served the taxpayers should not be hidden from the public,” Bernstine said. “Good or bad, visitors to the Capitol should have the opportunity to be educated on the full history of their government.”
Bernstine said the practice ended in June.
