Residents asked to vote in river contest
The Butler-Freeport Community Trail board of directors and Audubon Friends is asking county residents to cast their votes online for Buffalo Creek in the annual Pennsylvania River of the Year contest.
Buffalo Creek runs along the Butler-Freeport Community Trail and is a nationally recognized Important Bird Area, according to Chris Ziegler, president of the trail association.
The winner of the 2021 River of the Year contest will receive $10,000 in grants for improvements in or along the creek.
Voting will close Jan. 22.
The five waterways in contention for River of the Year are Buffalo Creek, Lehigh River, Loyalhanna Creek, Shenango River and Tunkhannock Creek.
