Man, 20, dies in 1-vehicle wreck

Car hits tree in SR Twp.

State police are investigating a one-vehicle crash early Wednesday that killed a 20-year-old man in Slippery Rock Township.

Jason Alexander Porter of Slippery Rock was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck about 12:25 a.m. on Harmony Road at the entrance to Slippery Rock University.

He was not an SRU student, said university spokesman Robb King.

Porter, who had a Texas driver's license, was driving a Nissan Rogue that struck a tree, investigators said. He was alone in the vehicle. A passerby apparently came upon the crash and called 911.

The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team responded and found Porter still in the severely damaged vehicle.

“There was heavy entrapment,” said Slippery Rock Fire Chief Ryan Hanchosky.

Porter was deceased when fire crews reached him, authorities said. He was not wearing a seat belt. Butler County Coroner William Young III pronounced him dead of “blunt force trauma.”

An autopsy was not planned, Young said.

Police said they believe speed was a factor in the crash.

Emergency crews described the road as “clear.”
