Nicklas 103rd birthday
Bernice Pearl Hooks Nicklas of Dallas, Texas, celebrated her 103rd birthday on Dec. 23.
Because of the current pandemic precautions being taken by everyone, the family has decided to forego a get-together with friends and family this year and ask that you remember her with cards and letters. Nicklas was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Adrian, Pa., the youngest of 12 children of Chambers L. and Clara Emily Hooks.
She graduated from Kittanning High School in 1936. She also graduated from Butler Beauty School and married C.B. “Brownie” Nicklas in 1942. He died in 1979.
Bernice has one daughter, Carolyn, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
In October 2015, Nicklas moved to Dallas to be near her daughter and son-in-law.
At 103, she is the oldest resident where she lives.
Nicklas has been less active this year, but is continuing to persevere with walking and exercise after having broken four ribs during a fall in June.
She continues to receive correspondence from Trinity Presbyterian Church in Butler, where she is a charter member, and from Eastern Star, where she has been a member for more than 50 years.
Nicklas has also enjoyed reading the local Dallas paper, the White Rock Lake Weekly.
