Contests encourage teens to speak out
The Butler Eagle is partnering with the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation to offer “It Can Wait” and “Stop Cyberbullying” editorial contests for high school students to increase the awareness of distracted driving and cyberbullying.
The contests are being hosted in conjunction with AT&T and are open to all high school students in Pennsylvania.
Students can write a column or editorial video on “Why is it important to take the It Can Wait pledge to drive distraction free?” and/or “Why cyberbullying is dangerous and should not be tolerated.”
Rules and entry information are available by visiting assets.butlereagle.com/editorialcontests.
The Butler Eagle’s two contest winners will receive $200 each. Entries will be forwarded on to the state level, where a $500 top prize will be awarded in both contests, and second and third place prizes of $200 or $100 may be awarded.
Entries are due March 12, and Butler Eagle contest winners will be announced March 19.
The PNA Foundation will announce statewide results the week of April 12, and those winners will be recognized at a Student Keystone Media Awards celebration.
