2 injured in 2 weekend off-road accidents

Two people were injured minutes apart Saturday in separate off-road vehicle accidents in Butler County, authorities said.

A medical helicopter was called shortly before 12:15 p.m. for a reported all-terrain vehicle crash in the Petrolia area. The rider was believed to have suffered a fractured hip and shoulder injury. State police were also called.

The victim was driven to the Karns City Regional Ambulance Service on Jamison Street in Petrolia, said James Barnes, an assistant chief for the Petrolia Volunteer Fie Department.

An ambulance transported the rider to Karns City High School were a LifeFlight helicopter landed and flew the victim to an unknown Pittsburgh hospital. No other information was available Sunday.

A little earlier, authorities said, emergency crews got a call at 11:52 a.m. for a dirt bike accident at Switchback Raceway on Route 8 in Clay Township. The rider in that crash reportedly suffered a broken collarbone.

Butler Ambulance Service responded, and a medical crew subsequently canceled initial calls for West Sunbury and Unionville volunteer fire departments.

No other information was available.
