Game Commission stocking pheasants

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is releasing 560 pheasants in the county on Dec. 22-23. The current season ends Dec. 24, but the late season is Dec. 26-Feb. 27.

The commission said 410 cocks, or male birds, and 150 hens will be released in state game lands 95, 164 and 304 and Moraine State Park as a part of the 23,000 pheasants being stocked across the state. Male and female pheasants can be harvested.

The bag limit is two birds a day and six in possession. The late season stocking accounts for 10% of the 218,000 pheasants stocked statewide. Pheasant hunters must wear at least 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on the head, chest and back combined, with orange visible from 360 degrees.

Shotguns must have a capacity of no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined.
