County Democratic committee plans to protest Kelly lawsuit

The Butler County Democratic Committee is holding two rallies Saturday to protest efforts by U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, to overturn the results of the election.

Committee Chairman Catherine Lalonde said Kelly is trying to overturn the election by asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear arguments claiming Pennsylvania's Act 77, which allowed no-excuse mail in voting, is unconstitutional.

That law was supported by a majority of his Republican counterparts at the state level, she said.

“Kelly has continued filing lawsuits to overturn a legitimate election by disenfranchising 2.7 million people who voted by mail. This is undemocratic and causing even more division in our country,” Lalonde said in an announcement of the rallies.

One will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in front of the Target store in Butler Commons in Butler Township, and the second is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the corner of Routes 19 and 228 in Cranberry Township.
