Transit authority supports $2.8M grant to improve access
The Butler Transit Authority voted to support a $2.8 million state transportation grant application to improve access to the authority's facility on Hollywood Drive and a recreation center planned by Butler Township.
Authority board members unanimously voted Tuesday to support the application that the township submitted to the Department of Transportation's Multimodal Transportation Fund.
Many traffic accidents occur in the area around the intersection of Whitestown Road, Hansen Avenue and Armco Drive, where the work would be done, said John Paul, authority executive director.
“I commend them for addressing the issue and trying to get something resolved,” Paul said.
The project would include realigning Armco Drive to intersect with Hollywood Drive and realigning the Hansen Avenue-Whitestown Road intersection to create direct access from Hansen Avenue to Armco Drive.
The realignments would improve access to the 18 acres the township purchased off Hollywood Drive in the Pullman Center Business Park for a recreation center, township officials said.
In other business, Paul said the Butler County board of commissioners reappointed board member Joe Hasychak to another five-year term. Hasychak has served on the board since it was formed by the City of Butler and Butler Township in 1989.
The board voted to hold its 2021 meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m.
The board also approved a 60-month lease for a copier with Boory's Business Machines of Butler for $305 a month.
