The Butler County Commissioners approved the following actions at their Wednesday meeting:
- Approved a $10,000 coronavirus grant for each of 28 volunteer fire departments in the county and $15,000 for eight emergency medical services providers. Leslie Osche, commissioners chairwoman, said the grants will come from the county budget’s general fund, which has been aided by funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
- Approved $51,433 in additional grant funds to provide better coronavirus mitigation protocol for the county’s courts. The grant will be used to rent larger quarters for jury selection, Plexiglas for certain areas of the county courtrooms, UV disinfecting lights and improved technology for online court-related meetings.
- Approved a measure to apply for a $17,211 grant to support emergency shelter services for the winter months. The grant will be used to house those who report homelessness after business hours in two apartments. They will be moved to regular homelessness housing the next business day. The measure is needed because social distancing must be followed in the county’s homeless facilities, so fewer people can be housed there.
- Approved spending $795 from a block grant on billboards advertising grab-and-go meals and the Home Delivered Meal program for senior citizens during the coronavirus pandemic.
- Approved extending the county’s agreement with Delta Development Group to include grant management services for the two Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants received by the county. Delta Development will manage all the requirements during and after the expansion of Route 228 in Middlesex and Adams townships.
