Man faces charges of DUI twice in 24 hours
A Connoquenessing Township man's arrest early Sunday for suspected drugged driving was his second in less than 24 hours, state police said.
Wade J. Brueckman, 30, later was arraigned and placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond in connection with the second incident in Connoquenessing Township.
Charges are pending in the first incident, authorities said, stemming from a two-vehicle crash Saturday in Jackson Township.
The wreck occurred, Jackson Township Police Chief Terry Seilhamer said, around 3:50 p.m. on German Street. No injuries were reported.
Brueckman, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was given an evaluation by a certified drug recognition expert before being taken to UPMC Passavant hospital in Cranberry Township for a blood draw.
Toxicology results are pending, Seilhamer said. Brueckman was later released to a family member.
Around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, state police said, they spotted Brueckman driving a 1997 Honda Civic turning onto Shannon Road from Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township. One of the headlights was not working.
A trooper activated his cruiser's emergency lights and siren to make a traffic stop, police said, but Brueckman continued traveling, allegedly committing at least two violations, before pulling into his driveway on Dick Road.
Police said they suspected Brueckman was impaired. He failed field sobriety testing and eventually was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood draw. Toxicology results were not available.
A search of the defendant and the car, police said, turned up suspected marijuana, two THC cartridges and other drug contraband.
Police in charging documents noted that this was his second DUI arrest within a 24-hour period.
District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Brueckman on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, fleeing or attempting to elude police, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He also is charged with six traffic violations.
At the arraignment Sunday, O'Donnell imposed a number of bail-release conditions, including that the defendant report to the county's adult probation office and be placed on pretrial supervision, subject to electronic monitoring.
He also must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, and abstain from drugs and alcohol.
Online records did not list an attorney for him.
