Teen charged in baseball bat attack
A teenager is accused of hitting his sister's boyfriend in the head with an aluminum baseball bat during an altercation Monday evening at the siblings' home in Butler, city police said.
Police arrested 18-year-old Cody Gillman, who was arraigned on a felony charge of aggravated assault, and placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bond.
The victim, also 18, of Center Township, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of a head injury, police said. His condition was not known Wednesday.
A call for a domestic dispute shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday sent officers to the home on the 500 block of East Pearl Street, police said. Butler Ambulance Service also was called.
Police said that when they got there, they found a pool of blood on the front porch and nearby was a purple and white aluminum baseball bat. The victim was seated on a bench on the porch with a cut on the forehead.
Gillman's 16-year-old sister told police that the defendant and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument, according to charging documents, during which her brother punched the victim and struck him in the forehead with the bat.
Police were advised that the defendant had fled after the alleged assault. He turned himself in about 20 minutes later at the police station. He was arraigned later that night.
Gillman's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
