Lamb extends slim lead

CRANBERRY TWP — The race hasn't been called, but U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb, D-17th, has extended his lead over Republican challenger Sean Parnell.

Lamb claimed victory in the race Wednesday night to much controversy, when he was leading by a knife's edge, as Parnell's campaign challenged him to “exercise the restraint that he was calling for while significantly behind.”

But Lamb, who represents part of Cranberry Township along with Beaver County and part of Allegheny County in the House, widened his thin lead to 4,000 votes Friday evening, or about 2 percentage points more than Parnell's vote total.

Notably, The Associated Press hasn't declared a victor in the race despite projecting a winner for every other House competition in Pennsylvania, including the two other Butler County representatives, U.S. Reps. Mike Kelly, R-16th, and Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-15th.

Parnell is a decorated U.S. Army veteran who received two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, and he co-founded the American Warrior Initiative, an organization that gives back to veterans.

During the campaign, he frequently described his opponent as being in lockstep with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Lamb served in the Marine Corps as a judge advocate before becoming an assistant federal prosecutor in 2014. He was elected to his seat in a 2018 special election and was reelected that same year.
