Dodgers end Series drought, beat Rays

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions again.

It took 32 years, but with a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday night, the Dodgers claimed the title in an odd, abbreviated 2020 season marked by a pandemic.

Mookie Betts was vital to the championship. Acquired in the offseason from the Boston Red Sox, Betts went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth that gave L.A. an insurance run.

The Dodgers used seven pitchers to get through Game 6.

Rays’ starter Ian Snell was cruising, striking out nine in 5 1/3 innings before he was lifted with his pitch count at just 73.

Tampa Bay led 1-0 at the time on the strength of a home run by Randy Arozarena, his record-setting 10th of the postseason.

Relief pitcher Nick Anderson promptly coughed up the lead with a wild pitch that scored Austin Barnes and a single to Corey Seager that scored Betts in the bottom of the sixth.

Julio Urias worked the final 2 1/3 innings to earn the save.
