Two roads closing for projects
Roadwork may hassle drivers again this weekend as PennDOT announced the closure of two roads in the county, so crews can carry out projects.
In Butler, Kittanning Street will be closed at the railroad crossing Saturday through Monday.
Drivers who use this route are asked to detour using Route 68 to Route 422 to Mitchell Hill Road.
That segment of road will be closed so that Frontier Railroad can replace tracks and railroad ties on the at-grade crossing.
The Freedom Road bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike shut down at 10 p.m. Friday and will remain closed until 6 a.m. Monday.
That is so road crews can work on a project, expected to be completed in December, replacing the extant bridge structure carrying the road over the turnpike, replacing it with a new six-lane bridge and widening the highway approach to the aforementioned bridge.
Travelers driving in different directions each have their own set of detours to follow.
Northbound and westbound traffic should continue on Route 19, turn left on Cranberry Square Drive and turn left again on Executive Drive.
Southbound traffic should continue on Route 19 south, turn right on Thorn Hill Road, turn right again on Commonwealth Drive and yet again take a right onto Freedom Road.
Eastbound drivers should turn right onto Commonwealth Drive, left on Thorn Hill Road and left again to Route 19 north.
As with all work during the COVID-19 pandemic, PennDOT requests the public avoid contact with construction personnel.
