Redevelopment Authority awards paving contract
The Butler Redevelopment Authority awarded a contract to reconstruct three streets in the city Thursday.
Authority board members voted to award a $71,073 contract to Independence Enterprises of Oakdale, which submitted the lowest of three bids for the project that will reconstruct Glenn, Slagle and Standard avenues.
Bids were opened June 25. Other proposals included a $79,071 bid from Shields Asphalt Paving of Valencia and a $102,815 bid from Holbein of Sarver.
Money from the authority's 2019 Community Development Block Grant is being used to pay for the work.
Veronica Walker, acting executive director, said she hopes Independence Enterprises will do the work while the contractor is in town working on another road project.
Last month, the authority awarded Independence a $205,110 contract to reconstruct Euclid, Spang, Sumner and Cottage Hill avenues, and replace 14 curb ramps.
The notice to proceed for the later project was issued Thursday.
In other business, a vacant third-floor apartment in one of the authority's rental units was damaged during a recent break in.
Authority maintenance staff will repair holes in the walls and a damaged ceiling, she said.
City police were called to investigate, she added.
In addition, an extension of the contract between the authority and city for the authority's offices in the tier garage is expected to be addressed by City Council at its upcoming July 30 meeting. Walker said the current three-year contract expires Oct. 1.
