Man arrested for allegedly punching, strangling woman
PROSPECT — A Connoquenessing Township man is accused of punching and strangling a woman during a domestic dispute.
The alleged victim lost a tooth and suffered other injuries in the altercation Monday night at a home on Arron Road in Prospect, state police said.
Police arrested Josiah D. Scharding, 27, of Connoquenessing Township after the incident. On Tuesday, District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned him on misdemeanor charges of strangulation and simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.
Police said they were called to the home where the incident reportedly occurred, but when they got there, both the defendant and victim were gone.
Troopers later found them at Scharding’s home. The woman told police that the defendant punched her in the face, knocking out one of her front teeth, according to charging documents.
She also allegedly recounted that he grabbed her by the neck. Police noted in an affidavit that the woman had a missing tooth, swollen lip and scratches on her neck.
Scharding is free on nonmonetary bond with the condition that he have no contact with the victim. Online court records did not list an attorney for him.
