Young man seriously hurt in crash on park property
FRANKLIN TWP — State police are investigating a one-vehicle crash Monday afternoon that left a 23-year-old Portersville man hospitalized in Pittsburgh.
Cody Purvis suffered a serious back injury and cuts to his face and legs in the wreck on Park Road near Route 528 in Franklin Township around 3:15 p.m., according to emergency crews.
Police said Purvis was traveling east on Park Road when he lost control of a Mitsubishi Lancer going around a bend and went off the right side of the road. Prospect volunteer firefighters said it appeared the car struck a drainage ditch and flipped over, landing on its wheels.
Purvis was laying on the ground next to the driver's side of the car when rescuers arrived. Police said it was unclear if he was ejected from the vehicle or if he was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.
“He was alert, but not very oriented,” said Ken Wilson, chief of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department.
Butler Ambulance Service medics helped tend to Purvis before a STAT MedEvac helicopter landed near a boat launch at Moraine State Park and flew him to UPMC Presbyterian hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
The crash, authorities said, occurred on park property.
Crews said the car, which was towed, was badly damaged and likely totaled.
