Driver killed in I-79 crash
CRANBERRY TWP — A 41-year-old Lyndora woman died in a single-car crash Friday on Interstate 79.
State police said Cristi L. Reibert was driving a red 2019 Kia Forte sedan that veered off the left side of I-79 north just before 3:30 p.m.
The red sedan rolled over several times and came to a final stop in the median facing north, but closer to the southbound lanes, at mile marker 78.6.
Reibert was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Deputy Coroner John Hanovick.
The crash shut down parts of I-79 in both directions for nearly three hours Friday.
The median in that area of the highway is heavily sloped, with a significant drop from the northbound to the southbound lanes. The sedan had extensive damage to all sides, and debris was scattered on both sides of the interstate.
First responders originally shut down the left lanes on both sides of the highway. The southbound end was closed beginning at Exit 85 — Evans City in Jackson Township at around 4:30 p.m. Northbound traffic was halted at the on-ramp from Route 228 shortly after.
Traffic heading north on the interstate continued at around 6 p.m. Friday. Responders cleared the scene just before 6:15 p.m., at which point traffic resumed in the southbound lanes as well.
