Orders honor outstanding educators at ceremony

From left, educators Jeanine Carlson, Jessica Carlson, Col. Mark Pappal, Chelsie Tonini and Master Squire Leonard Leinenbach took part in a special Lorraine Chapter of the Order of DeMolay event honoring outstanding teachers and mentors. Michael Menchyk was missing from the photograph.

Members of Lorraine Chapter Order of DeMolay, and their younger brothers, the members of William C. Graham Manor Order of Squires, held a special ceremony and reception recognizing outstanding area educators.

During the month of September, DeMolay and Squires recognize Education Day, an obligatory day for the organizations where the members take a moment to recognize the importance of education in their journey toward becoming leaders in our community.

Again this year, the youth members elected to each nominate an outstanding teacher, mentor or educator who went above and beyond or passed on knowledge that has made a difference in the lives of the young men.

The nominees, and their building principals, were contacted and invited to a special ceremony, followed by a reception with refreshments.

The educators received a certificate and recognition pin, presented to them by the members.

The 2019 nominees are: Chelsie Tonini, Emily Brittain Community Partnership and Demonstration School; Michael Menchyk, Butler Senior High School; Colonel Mark Pappal, Butler Intermediate High School;

Jessica Carlson, Butler Intermediate High School; Jeanine Carlson, Butler Senior High School.

DeMolay and Squires are Masonic-sponsored youth leadership organizations. The Order of Squires is for boys ages 9 to 11, and DeMolay is for young men ages 12 to 21.
