CHICORA — There will be a benefit from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Dew Drop Inn, 435 Chicora Feneleton Road, to raise money for Brendan Tatar.

There will be a 50/50 auction, other auctions and dinners available to purchase.

Proceeds will go to Tatar and his fiancée to alleviate medical costs he faces as he recovers from an accident in June. Tartar was pinned between two pieces of paving equipment and suffered multiple pelvic fractures, burns and injuries to the backs of his legs.

KARNS CITY — There will be a Warrior Walk 5K at Karns City High School beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in memory of the late Tyler Barger.Registration starts at 1 p.m. for those that have not registered yet. All proceeds benefit iRise suicide prevention and education.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at its new Family History Center, 247 Kelly Blvd.This event is open to the public to see what's available at the center to help people find out more about their family history.Activities planned include an “Old Time Photo Shoot,” as well as finger foods from different countries to sample.

CHICORA — Christian leaders from various churches in the Petroleum Valley will implement the third annual Community Family Fun Day with a Purpose at Chicora Park.The event will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. There will be live music with a bluegrass flair; featured speakers; children’s games and toys; and free food and drink, as well an auction and a bake sale.The day’s purpose is to build community, to connect families with resources which advocate for a drug-free lifestyle and to encourage volunteerism in the Petroleum Valley.There are many ways to be a part of this endeavor. Contact Pastor Mark Wallace at 724-445-7917 to be an exhibitor. Monetary donations are also being accepted through the Chicora Alliance Church, PO Box 251, Chirora, PA 16025.
