Evans City man says sportsman club's rifle range bullets are hitting his home

Jodi and Steve Longwell Sr. stand below a bullet hole in the siding of their house they believe to be from the nearby Evans City Sportsman Club.

JACKSON TWP — Steve Longwell Sr., who lives about a quarter-mile downrange from the Evans City Sportsman Club, said stray bullets were a small problem when he moved in, but have gotten worse over the 34 years he has lived there.

Since noticing two bullet holes in his house's siding, Longwell has made contact with the club and police. He wants the club to pay for repairs to his siding and his roof.

According to Longwell, his family attended the club's July 8 meeting and asked if they could make any improvements to ensure safety and were told the club would close down the range until they could do so.Longwell said the club kept that promise for a while, but held several events at the rifle range following their meeting. Jackson Police Chief Terry Seilhamer said the club only shoots with a certified range safety officer on scene.<i>This is a preview of a full article that will appear in Sunday's Butler Eagle.
