The Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps, a statewide youth employment and job development program, dispatched two crews to Moraine State Park last week to assist in a pair of maintenance projects.

A crew of eight from the corps’ Pittsburgh Youth Crew, which consists mainly of Pittsburgh-area teenagers between age 15 and 18, assisted with cleaning and maintenance of various historic cemeteries inside the park. Meanwhile, the corps’ Pittsburgh American Sign Language Inclusion crew worked on tread and drainage improvements along Moraine’s Wyggeston Trail, a 7.4-mile trail on the park’s South Shore.

Each crew consisted of six members and two crew leaders. The corps has 17 youth crews across the state. These include two American Sign Language inclusion crews, with the other one based in Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps also maintains 12 crews across the state for young adults age 18 to 25 who work the majority of the year, as opposed to just during the summer.
