Alameda Park events listedThe Butler County Parks & Recreation Department continues its Free Family Summer Concert series with the 6:30 p.m. Tuesday concert with Chris Denem playing Neil Diamond and Johnny Cash covers.The concert takes place in the Odd Fellows Gazebo in Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road, Butler Township.Fitness in the Park Monday classes continue in the Carousel Shelter with 5:45 p.m. yoga classes and 7 p.m. Zumba classes.The free Outdoor Discovery event is back at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Odd Fellows Gazebo with Playthings Etc. bringing a selection of toys and games.There is 50 percent off admission to the Alameda Waterpark for those wearing a school logo or presenting school IDs for private and home schools.For more information, call the department at 724-284-5383.
Movie in the park scheduledThe Butler County Parks & Recreation Department has scheduled the free screening of the movie “Christopher Robin” at 8:30 p.m. Friday.The movie will be shown at the athletic field near the Pine and Lions shelters in Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road.For more information call the department at 724-284-5383.
Zelienople Library hosts eventsThe Zelienople Area Public Library will host an evening under the stars with a local astronomer at 7 p.m. Tuesday.Larry McHenry, who has been an active astronomer for more than 40 years, will have an indoor presentation “Stargazing and Myths,” an introduction to the constellations and the night sky, followed by “Observing the Moon for Beginners.”After the presentations, there will be an outdoor observing session with several telescopes, weather permitting.The library’s “Pushing the Limits” discussion series that features books, videos and special guest speakers will start its 2019 session Aug. 24.The 2019 themes are transformation, tradition, heritage and motion.The four-part series is open to adults and teens in the community.The series strives to connect people with one another and the world through lively conversation, stories from the community, and sharing from people’s everyday lives.People can register at the library, 227 S. High St., Zelienople, or at zelienoplelibrary.org.Notices of local upcoming news should be received by the Community Department one week in advance of the event.
