CONCORD TWP — A construction worker was injured around 12:46 p.m. Friday while on a job on Oneida Valley Road just south of Valley Road.

North Washington Fire Chief Bruce Confer said first responders were initially called to the scene for what was thought to be a vehicle accident.

“On arrival, we discovered it was a construction accident,” Confer said. “We assisted Karns City Regional Ambulance and Butler Ambulance with the patient.”

Confer said the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department assisted by setting up the landing zone for a STAT MedEvac helicopter. He said the patient was taken to Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh.

According to Butler County 911 emergency service dispatch, a paving roller hit the worker, seriously injuring him, with injuries including possible multiple leg fractures.

Confer said throughout the process of transporting the patient, the road was closed and traffic was backed up in both directions. State police also responded to the scene.

One person who posted comments on a Butler Eagle social media site about the incident claimed to witness the accident. The commenter claimed the roller backed into the man and also struck a wheelbarrow in the process.
