Woman charged with spitting at city officer

Ashley Deuso
Police say they found her in middle of road

A woman was arrested Wednesday on charges that she spit at and tried to kick a city police officer last month.

Ashley L. Deuso, 33, of Lyndora is charged with felony assault. She is in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.

Butler police said they found Deuso around 7:35 p.m. May 13 standing in the middle of Renaissance Drive at Bell Drive. She refused to get off the road.

A Butler Transit Authority bus traveling the road was forced to stop long enough for officers to remove the defendant, police said,

When officer Cheryl Litz asked how police could help her, according to charging documents, Deuso “spun around and grabbed (the officer's) vest.”

The suspect is accused of pulling at the vest's radio holster and breaking off the front tab. Police moved in and restrained Deuso against a patrol car. She was handcuffed.

Later, as the defendant was being led to a police vehicle, she tried to kick Litz and spit in her face, documents said. Deuso was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Deuso on a charge of aggravated assault Wednesday and she was jailed.
