New priest had worked in Gibsonia

GIBSONIA — A young man becoming an ordained priest with the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh this month previously did a year of pastoral experience work in Gibsonia.

Mingwei Li of Pleasant Hills did a year of seminary work at St. Richard’s Parish in Gibsonia. He was there from 2016 to 2017.

He’ll be ordained June 29 and will celebrate his first Mass at his home parish of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish in Pleasant Hills on the following day at 10:30 a.m.

Li and his family immigrated from China nearly 20 years ago, according to a diocese news release, and settled in Pittsburgh’s South Hills area. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and entered the seminary in 2012.

The release said Li’s time in Gibsonia “solidified and affirmed his priestly calling even deeper.”

Li is one of four men becoming ordained priests June 29. They’re being ordained at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.
