Expect to be greeted by new technology at the ticket booth at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park in the future.

Board members from the City of Butler Parks, Recreation, Grounds and Facilities Authority will add a hand-held point of sale system as long as it meets certain stipulations.

“We're trying to come up with the best option for the POS,” said Dean Selfridge Jr., stadium's manager.

Frank Hulick, concessions manager and local business owner, said the hand-held could be used in the stands for selling beer or even off-site for other events.

“It's totally wireless,” he said, but “the main use would be for the ticket booth.”

Hulick said the handheld's portability feature prevents damage from disconnecting, moving and reconnecting the stationary systems already in use at the stadium.

“The terminals where they're at, they all have a use,” Hulick said. “It's probably not a good idea to move them around.”

Selfridge said the terminals would also improve record keeping for accounting purposes from ticket and small concession sales.

“I think this is going to pay for itself in the first couple of uses,” he said.

Also at the meeting, Selfridge updated the board on plans for the Fall Festival to rent out the field and concessions on Sept. 28.

“I think it's a great idea,” board member Diane Downs said. While most of the board members were excited about the opportunity, board member Robert Graham raised some concerns about potential damage to the field.

Selfridge told the board he believes the festival poses little threat to the field, and the festival carries $2 million worth of insurance.

Selfridge said no large vehicles would be on the field. Food trucks will be outside the right field foul line and along the fence. The Kid Zone, which is mainly inflatable play equipment, will be outside the left field line and along that fence.

Selfridge said table vendors will be arranged in the outfield and should have vehicles on field only for setup. A stage will be arranged above home plate with the entertainment facing the seats of the venue.

Board President Cheri Reade said the festival will be a great way to showcase the evolution of the ballpark as an entertainment venue.

“I think it really showcases what we have,” Reade said.
