Bicyclist hurt in accident with truck

BUTLER TWP — A Lyndora man broke his leg when his bicycle collided with a pickup truck Friday morning, authorities said.

And to add insult to injury, Joseph Portera, 31, of Lyndora was ticketed by police for causing the wreck.

Butler Township police said Portera was riding his bike eastbound on Peterson Street around 9:30 a.m. when he allegedly ran a stop sign and traveled in front of a Chevy pickup.

Shawn Burns, 56, of Butler, the driver, was traveling south on Hansen Avenue and was unable to stop in time before hitting Portera, according to the police report.

Butler Ambulance Service medics tended to Portera for a reportedly fractured leg. He was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The Butler Fire Department assisted at the scene. Police cited Portera for not stopping at a stop sign.
