Asst. superintendent position eliminated

JEFFERSON TWP — The assistant superintendent position has been eliminated at the South Butler School District.

Superintendent David Foley said on Monday that Richard Cavett, the assistant superintendent who retired this month, will not be replaced.

Foley explained that Cavett's main tasks were curriculum and human resources.

“His job was big and he was spread out between the school functions and the employee functions,” Foley said.

At its June meeting, the school board voted to hire Patricia Crump as the director of human resources.

She will start work in the district Aug. 1. Her salary will be $95,000 per year.

Foley said he is working with principals and department heads to decide who will head up the district's curriculum program.

“We are going to work together to create a real clear structure on-staff,” Foley said.

The decision to hire an HR professional and handle curriculum in-house was not a financial decision.

“It's just about reorganizing (the position),” Foley said.
