Qualifying individuals will have six extra months to apply for a rebate to their property tax or rent.

Dan Hassell, state revenue secretary, announced Monday that the deadline was extended from June 30 to Dec. 31.

Pennsylvania residents who are age 65 or older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and adults with disabilities might be eligible for a rebate of up to $975, according to a news release from Hassell’s office.

The income limit for property owners or renters who meet the age or disability requirements is $35,000, and $15,000 for renters. Half of an individual’s Social Security income is excluded in figuring an annual income.

“Last year, nearly 572,000 seniors and people with disabilities benefited from the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program,” Hassell said. “We are extending the deadline again this year because we want to be sure everyone who is eligible has time to submit their applications.”

As of June 1, the department had received 432,411 rebate applications.

Rebate distribution begins July 1.

Applicants can obtain claim forms and related information on the state Department of Revenue’s website, www.revenue.pa.gov, or by calling toll free at 888-222-9190.

Free assistance is available at Department of Revenue district offices, the local Area Agency on Aging, senior centers and state legislators’ offices.
