A Slippery Rock district navigator on a bomber operating from an English airbase was reported missing in action over Germany on May 27, it was reported in a communication to the parents today.

Second Lieutenant Don H. Blythe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don D. Blythe of Slippery Rock R.D. 1, failed to return from a bombing mission over Germany on May 27, the War department communication announced.

The young navigator who has been in the service since March of 1943, had been in combat since May 1, and had been on foreign service since April 12, 1944.

The family revealed today that they had received a cable message from an officer who was stationed at the same airbase as the missing navigator, in which it was revealed that he had some good news for the family concerning the lost airman.

Lieut. Blythe is a graduate of Slippery Rock high school and was attending Allegheny College when he entered the armed forces.

He received his navigator wings at Selman Field, La.

Don H. Blyth(e) from Butler County is listed as killed in action by the government. Among honors received, the second lieutenant was awarded the Purple Heart, according to HonorStates.org.
