SUMMIT TWP — A man is accused of strangling his girlfriend, burning her with a hot frying pan and threatening her with a screwdriver during a weekend domestic dispute at his home.

State police arrested 31-year-old Tyler J. Karch on felony and other charges in the alleged assault around 10 p.m. Saturday in Summit Township.

Troopers found Karch and the victim at the home on Jodi Lane. The woman appeared to have several injuries, police said, including a large burn on her right calf, a bruise on her lower lip and a scrape on her left elbow.

She told police that when she returned home, the defendant was cooking dinner. They got into an argument and he allegedly pushed her against a wall.

Karch is accused of hitting his girlfriend's head on the wall and floor, and putting his forearm around her throat while she was on the floor.

She recounted that he burned her leg with a hot pan and put a screwdriver to her neck, threatening to “put it in (her) throat,” according to charging documents.

The defendant was arraigned on a felony charge of strangulation and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats and simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.

He is being held at the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail while awaiting his preliminary hearing June 25 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
