A Lyndora man might have made his situation worse by struggling with police officers and hospital staff Friday.

Butler Township Police were called at 12:29 a.m. to an apartment building on the 700 block of Bessemer Avenue. Officers found Nathan Saul, 28, of Lyndora “highly intoxicated” and pounding on the door of his neighbor, according to the report.

“We believe he was just so intoxicated he was just at the wrong apartment,” said Lt. Matthew Pearson of the Butler Township police.

Pearson said when Saul saw the officers exit their car, he ran down Bessemer Avenue. Officers chased him down.

“He did have a very strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. Also, there was an odor of marijuana,” Pearson said. “When they searched him, he had a marijuana pipe in his pocket.”

Officers took Saul to the station and tried to get him into a holding cell, but he became “aggressive and belligerent” toward the officers and refused to enter the cell, according to the report.

“There was a struggle. He latched onto the holding cell bars and wouldn't let go,” Pearson said. “During that struggle, he got a little cut on his head.”

Pearson said Saul was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital about 20 minutes after arriving at the station, so he was still intoxicated.

Saul tried to head-butt a member of the staff at the hospital while being treated, according to the report. Pearson said the staff member was not hurt.

Saul was treated and then taken to the Butler County Prison.

He was arraigned Friday morning on charges of aggravated assault, loitering and prowling, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Bail was set at $15,000. He remained incarcerated as of Friday afternoon.
