The Butler County Historical Society, 123 W. Diamond St., will have its annual meeting and volunteer recognition beginning at 5:45 p.m. June 11 at the YWCA, 120 W Cunningham St.

Dinner will be served followed by volunteer recognition and a program by Jason Cherry, local author and historian. Cherry's latest book, “ Pittsburgh's Lost Outpost: Captain Trent's Fort” details the history of William Trent and Pittsburgh's forgotten first outpost.

Cherry will have books available for purchase and autographs.

There will be a drug awareness walk beginning at 10 a.m. June 8 to bring attention and hope to the ones suffering and support to those in recovery.The walk will begin at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 420 N. Main St. and end at the Butler County Courthouse.There will be free T-shirts while supplies last and a basket raffle.The walk is an outreach of Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church.For more information, call 724-991-2357.

There will be a program, “A Factual Look at the Impact Legalization of Recreational Marijuana Has Had in Colorado,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Succop Theater on the Butler County Community College campus, 107 College Drive.The keynote speaker will be Dale Quigley, deputy coordinator of the National Marijuana Initiative for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Initiative Program funded by the White House's Office of National Drug Control Policy. Panel discussion participants include District Attorney Rich Goldinger and Jason Beckwith with Action in Recovery.

PENN TWP — Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road, will begin the Preschool 7th Annual 5K Family Friendly Walk/Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, starting on the church grounds.A Tot Trot and basket raffle are also included. For more information, visit nixonumchurch.org.
