A damaged utility pole ended up in the middle of Route 268 in Fairview Township after a pickup truck sheared it off Tuesday morning. No one was injured and no one lost electricity immediately after the crash about 4:50 a.m., authorities said. But West Penn Power subsequently had to turn power off as the pole was replaced. About 170 customers were without service for about three hours. The road between Oak and Trimbur roads also was closed for several hours following the wreck.

FAIRVIEW TWP — A portion of Route 268 between Oak and Trimbur roads was closed for several hours Tuesday morning after a pickup truck crashed into and sheared off a utility pole. No one was injured in the wreck, which occurred around 4:50 a.m.

Emergency crews arrived and found power lines on the road, said Cody Craig, chief of the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department.

It appeared the truck was traveling east when it struck the pole. State police are investigating, but an accident report was not immediately available.

A West Penn Power crew arrived around 6:30 a.m. and began work to repair the broken pole. There was no power outage from the wreck, but workers had to perform a forced outage while the pole was repaired, said Todd Meyers, a West Penn Power spokesman.

About 170 customers in the area were without electrical service for about three hours, Meyers said. Service was restored around 11:30 a.m.

The road was subsequently reopened to traffic.
