ADAMS TWP — Police have charged a Mars Pizza manager in the alleged theft of thousands of dollars from the register since December.

Joseph R. Horn, 41, of Mars is charged with 48 counts of theft and receiving stolen property.

Police learned about the thefts on May 16 when the shop's owner came to the department to report them.

The man supplied officers with register tape and payroll records that broke down the amounts and dates of the thefts. Records showed that Horn was the manager on duty at the time of each incident and was the only one with access to the register.

According to the police report, Horn was entering sales into the register, then canceling the transaction and pocketing the money equivalent to the price of the sale. The receipts indicate the practice had been going on since December, police said.

Documents list a total of $3,011 stolen over about six months and 24 shifts worked by Horn. Individual thefts ranged from $22 to $149.

Horn is not in custody, and hearing dates have yet to be set. Police filed charges Wednesday.
